Competitor Update

We remind you of these rule changes that were announced earlier. For Yamaha drivers, this version includes one word edit under Pt. 4 below. The updated Supplemental Rules in their entirety are posted online.

First, Rule Additions to all Yamaha KT100 Classes:

KT100 Pressure / Vacuum Testing For Leakage:
Testing may be performed to insure extra air is not being pulled into the engine for a performance gain. Any means to bypass the intent of the class rules is illegal.  Both pressure and vacuum tests may be performed -- engine must hold 5 psi for 60 seconds and/or  5 HG of vacuum for 60 seconds.

KT100 Blowdown checking procedure for Yamaha engines -
1 -- By a careful visual inspection (light check)  , identify the highest exhaust port and the highest intake port.
2 -- Using the Lad tool, zero the dial indicator on the highest exhaust port, taking care to hold the shaft  of the tool against the cylinder wall.
3 -- roll the crankshaft backwards (.500" on the dial indicator)
4 -- insert the Lad tool into the highest transfer port, holding the shaft of the tool against the cylinder wall.
5 -- roll the crankshaft forward until the piston stops on the Lad tool and note the value.
6 -- the value must be between .380" and .420" to be considered legal
7 -- engine to be checked as raced

Second with respect to the Margay Ignite Junior Shootout.

Carb Slide: Yellow OEM Unaltered. Briggs carb locking clamp must be in place with cap fully tightened at all times.

Third with respect to Spec Fuel: All classes will use spec fuel available at the track. 91 octane non-Ethanol fuel for Briggs 206 and clones; 98 octane for TAG and shifter classes; 110 octane for Yamaha classes. TAG and shifter drivers are reminded to please let use know your fuel needs in advance!

Finally, a reminder about two other changes made previously:

Brakes: Only rear brakes only are allowed in 4-cycle and Yamaha classes.

Ignite Shootout: A spec clutch and gear have been specified for the Margay Ignite Shootout classes. The spec clutch is Hilliard Flame. The spec clutch gear is 19T and the rear gear is open.

Next, the Competition Schedule is being posted to our website and will be handed out to all competitors at Registration.

As in the past we have done our best to provide breaks between classes for drivers who are racing in multiple classes. However it is inevitable that one or two will end up racing in back-to-back races. Please make the race director aware of this conflict and don't worry -- we will wait a reasonable time for you to compete.

It is important to note that fuel will be available for only a limited time. Fuel truck hours are 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday. In an emergency check with the tech crew.

Also please remember that all teams should complete pre-race tech on Friday -- either at the Expo Center parking lot during the day or on the pre-grid in the evening. Checks will be available Saturday morning in tech for overnight arrivals with a Registration Voucher only. All karts and helmets must pass tech and have a sticker to enter the track.

Once again, important addresses for your GPS.

Turn 6 by the old Argus Building) is 1724 Fourth Avenue, Rock Island

The address for the QCC Expo Center -- the off site parking area for Friday where we do pre-tech -- is 2621 Fourth Ave., Rock Island

As always there is a great lineup of after-hours entertainment in The District. Here's a quick rundown of the highlights:

The biggest entertainment tradition of the Grand Prix Weekend is the all-ages outdoor concerts sponsored by Rock Island Brewing Co. and The District on the Great River Plaza stage. It all kicks off tonight with heavy-metal band Savage Master on its "With Whips and Chains Tour" with guest Angelust at RIBCO, 1815 2nd Ave.

Friday moves outdoors, weather permitting, with Trippin' Billies, a Dave Matthews tribute band, with opening act Jason Carl.

Saturday and Sunday will feature the return of The Travoltas, a sing-along, dance-along fun disco act from Canada who are worth the trip in their own right. There will be opening acts both night. All shows start at 8 p.m. All four nights have cover charges.

Down the block, Comedy Sportz at the Establishment Theater (220 19th St.) will have shows both Friday and Saturday night. Comedy Sportz features a fun, fast-paced, family-friendly improvisational comedy show where two teams of players compete for laughs and points and you decide the winner. There is also a 9:30 p.m. show for ages 17 and up.

Friday is the opening night for “Million Dollar Quartet" at Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse (1828 3rd Ave.), the smash-hit musical inspired by the famed recording session that brought together rock 'n' roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time. On Dec. 4, 1956, these four gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever.

Saturday and Sunday, Rozz Tox (2108 3rd Ave.) will feature its Labor Day Benefit Fest with all profits going to the Center for Worker's Justice in Eastern Iowa. While Fourth Avenue is closed due to the race course, local access to Rozz Tox, Rooster’s, Gunchies and other businesses will remain open. Turn north on 22nd Street to access Rozz Tox and Roosters.

Saturday’s lineup at Rozz Tox, according to its website, will feature eight bands including Staghorn. Dowsing, Diners, Winterbourne and Hesitant Offering. Sunday features six more acts including Harakiri, Mace, Shutup and Closest Witch among others. For complete details, see rozztox.com.

See you all soon!
